Please tell us a little about your company and how you started.
I was working as a Senior Sales Exec. at one of those dot bombs back in 2000. Funding was pulled after 9/11 and the company tanked. It was at that moment I decided against having a boss... ever again. My cousin and I launched UrbanScooters.com shortly thereafter. The electric scooter biz was booming back in 2002 and competition was limited. We were able to grow the company on profits alone, with no starting capital (well, not exactly true... time is money). The rest is history.
What types of vehicles and products do you sell?
We sell electric scooters, electric bikes, gas scooters, electric ATVs, go karts, pocket bikes, push scooters, parts and accessories.
What models were your most popular in 2008?
The X-Treme X-360 is consistently a top seller, followed by the X-Treme X-560 (now discontinued) and the X-Treme X-140. Where high end product is concerned the Go-Ped ESR750H Hoverboard sold nicely in 2008.
Do you have any new products youre introducing for summer 2009?
Several street legal scooters from X-Treme Scooters. We also have a new Electric Bike Conversion Kit from Goped: The Go-Ped GoBike Power Rack Electric Bike Kit turns your favorite pedal bicycle into an eco-friendly commuter vehicle!
What do you see as a possible trend in 2009 for the imported scooter and power sports industry?
The continuing trend we see is a change in buyer profile. We're getting more and more commuters every day. Another ongoing trend is gas prices. Gas prices are going one direction...UP. As gas prices rise, scooter sales skyrocket.
Your company has a good reputation for customer service. Please tell us more of how youre able to set Urbanscooters.com apart from other web sites selling similar vehicles?
We do our best to keep our customers happy. We answer the phone during office hours, respond to email in a timely manner and make sure our customers are taken care of before and after the sale.
In what ways have you seen Partsforscooters.com benefit your business and customer base?
We don't carry a lot of parts. We're not well suited for high volume, low cost sales. That's a whole hell of a lot of sku's to keep track of...lol. Partsforscooters.com lets us do our thing and rewards us for the business we send them. It's a win-win relationship we've enjoyed for years.
Thank you for taking the time to speak with us. In conclusion, are there any special events Urbanscooters.com is taking part of this year?
We just wrapped up a promotion with the lovely ladies at Scooters 4 Hooters (www.Scooters4Hooters.com). Now, before you jump to conclusions... it's not what you think. They have an annual Scooter Charity Ride benefiting cancer victims. We donated a Go-Ped for their live auction. Aside from that, nothing else on the calendar, but I'm pretty involved in environmental affairs locally and am sure something will come up soon. It always does!
