Asian scooters use Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) screws, which look like Phillips head screws but actually have a smaller 75-degree angle compared to the 90-degree angle of Phillips screws. Using the wrong screwdriver may lead to cam-out, where the screwdriver slips out of the screw head, potentially damaging the screw or surrounding materials. By utilizing the correct JIS screwdriver, you can avoid cam-out and ensure the correct amount of torque is applied when tightening hardware. An easy way to tell if you are dealing with JIS screws is the head typically will have a dot, dimple, or star stamped into the head.
